{"id":16250,"date":"2025-09-16T22:03:47","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T22:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/?p=16250"},"modified":"2025-09-16T22:29:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T22:29:26","slug":"al-fajr-organization-for-peace-development-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/?p=16250","title":{"rendered":"AL FAJR ORGANIZATION FOR PEACE DEVELOPMENT JUSTICE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Geneva \/ Human Rights Council <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the framework of the participation of the Federation of Sudanese Human Rights<br>Centers and the Dawn Organization for Peace, Development and Human Rights in the 60th<br>session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, an oral statement was delivered on<br>behalf of Sudanese human rights organizations during the interactive dialogue with the<br>Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries, under item 3 of the Council\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In its statement, the Federation condemned the use of mercenaries by the Sudanese Armed<br>Forces in the ongoing conflict in Sudan since around mid-2023, and called on the Council to<br>activate its international mechanisms to prevent, prohibit, and criminalize the use of<br>mercenaries in wars and armed conflicts, and to ensure accountability for the crimes<br>committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces against civilians in Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The statement, delivered by the Federation on behalf of several Sudanese human rights<br>organizations and civil society institutions, read as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Mr. President,<br>We stand before this esteemed Council to denounce one of the gravest practices carried out<br>by the Sudanese Armed Forces in the context of the ongoing bloody conflict in Sudan: the<br>systematic recruitment and use of mercenaries as a tool to impose domination and control, in<br>flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and of the Sudanese people\u2019s right to<br>self-determination. International organizations and eyewitnesses have documented the<br>involvement of the Sudanese Armed Forces in recruiting foreign fighters into their ranks,<br>notably from the Dinka Ngok, as well as from the Fur, Masalit, and Tama tribes, and<br>employing them in military operations targeting civilians in Khartoum, Darfur, Kordofan, and<br>beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>These practices have resulted in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The perpetration of mass massacres against civilians, particularly women and<br>children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The escalation of rape and sexual violence as a weapon of war.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The forced displacement of more than ten million internally displaced persons and<br>refugees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The obstruction of humanitarian aid delivery and the destruction of essential civilian<br>infrastructure.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These violations constitute not only war crimes but also crimes against humanity, warranting<br>the prosecution of their perpetrators before the International Criminal Court, in accordance<br>with the principle of universal jurisdiction and the imperatives of international justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr President,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We call upon this esteemed council to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Condemn the use of mercenaries by the Sudanese Armed Forces as a threat to<br>international peace and security.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen the mandate of the Working Group on mercenaries and grant it an<br>expanded mandate to monitor and document mercenary activities in Sudan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impose individual and international sanctions on officers and military leaders<br>responsible for the use of mercenaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refer the Sudanese file to the International Criminal Court to ensure accountability<br>and an end to impunity.<br>Thank you, Mr. President.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"1 HRC\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WTSzjYySPE8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geneva \/ Human Rights Council Within the framework of the participation of the Federation of Sudanese Human RightsCenters and the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[74],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-16250","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16250","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=16250"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16250\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":16256,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16250\/revisions\/16256"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=16250"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=16250"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aopdj.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=16250"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
